Nationwide

With my New York brim and my gold tooth displayed,
nobody give me trouble cause they know I've got it made

--I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide, ZZ Top

_______

Ranger has always liked ZZ Top, but here's a little tidbit that increases our admiration.

The DAV ran an article citing the "celebrities and entertainers attending the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards May 14 [who] lent their support to disabled veterans and their families by autographing a guitar to support the DAV."

" But not every celebrity who attended the event autographed the guitar. . .Famed ZZ Top guitarist Billy F Gibbons chose instead to provide an autographed custom-made electric guitar – commissioned from his personal line – and donate it to the DAV (Country Music Celebrities Sign to Help Disabled Vets.)"

Gibbons presents the appearance of being anything but straight in his stage persona, but he recently spent two full days visiting wounded service members at Walter Reed Hospital Bethesda Medical Center. Of that visit DAV magazine reported Gibbons expressed, "it was one of the more profound experiences in his life and that he looks forward to future opportunities to spend time with and help disabled veterans."

ZZ Top--a good bunch of dudes from Texas. Billy, in his own way, shows that American heroes come in all flavors.

Ranger salutes you, Patriot Gibbons.

So many rockers with a name like his could just get by with the minimum. That's really awesome that he would give something so personal.
