Sex Pistols

Oh we're so pretty, oh so pretty vacant
But now and we don't care

Don't ask us to attend, 'cos were not all there

Oh don't pretend, 'cos I don't care

--Pretty Vacant
, Sex Pistols
______________

Ranger continues his fascination with the ladies in the gun catalogs. He is shocked -- shocked I tell you -- that such objectification occurs in this day and age.

One would think that sort of thing was reserved for Pepsodent, or Godiva, or Grey Goose vodka. Or cars or watches or De Beers or . . . well, not guns. Isn't that the last outpost of violent male tooldom? Then again, a feminist might say that is precisely
why women are so well-suited to hawk the product.

Ranger asked innocently, "Why is her shirt buttoned incorrectly?" Because she has just been ravished. Can't you see the patriotic phallus hanging flaccid around her neck, eagle beak pointed down to her nether regions, like a sick albatross.

"But why is her hair falling over her face?" It is a Veronica Lake look, Ranger, which says, "I am half-blind, therefore, can't see how stupid you are," or whatever particular insecurity the man may wish to hide. "I am ready for bed; I just came from there." She still likes your gun, though, as she keeps a firm grasp on that.

In contrast to the last ad we featured, the text here says, "Thin just ain't right." But of course, the model is still whippet-thin. Of course, the text is also bragging about the beefy weapon, dimensions : 3.6" barrel; 1.25" width. Not much to write home about, really.

Ranger's main beef with this ad is that it is duplicitous, for it is using U.S.A. iconography to sell an cosmetically-updated version of the old COMBLOC T-33 Tokarev, a weapon NOT made in the good ole U.S.A.

His concern, you see, is for maintaining artistic integrity.

shoot dude, you'd think if they were going to knock of a brand they could have come up with something better than that to steal. of course, there are probably lots of surplus taks lying around with the curtain down and a little creative engraving is easier than actually manufacturing stuff.

still if i was going to be knocking off i'd go for an h&k or sig. . .\

just sayin. i don't get those ads either ranger. last time i saw a skinny blonde with rumpled hair and a pistol there wasn't any come hither look about her eyes. . .

Yeah, if you want women in gun ads, why not use the ones who are NOT "beautiful when angry"
just for a teensy tiny bit more reality?

labrys, a little off tpoic but you notice both female Silver Star recipients are easy on the eye as we say in the deep south. No uglies need apply.
These ads amaze me especially in the Rifleman. The Blue Press can be understoob b/c they are simply making money. The NRA should have a deeper message to the public. jim

Geez, I can't believe you smart people are even discussing this - the reason they use purty girls in the ad is so you guys will look at it - for a long time. It worked!

Yes, silver stars for pretty girls. But I'd sure like to think they also earned them. I had a whole rant about the recent binge of "we do NOT send women to combat" shit that must be due to election time. Cause you know, only a couple years ago, the Pentagon was about eliminating the ban altogether.

anon,

You put it kindly, but you must remember, Ranger is saddled with a large reptilian brain underneath all that book learnin'.

labrys,

Also interesting that the latest female s.s. recipient was taken off the front lines post haste. Not her choice, either.
