Through the Past Darkly

--Peray (Thailand)

Nearly all men can stand adversity,

but if you want to test a man's character

give him power

--George Washington

You've got to pick up every stitch
The rabbits running in the ditch,

Oh no, must be the season of the witch

Ranger doesn't discuss conspiracy theory because doing so leads to derogatory comments, and one becomes slotted with the wingnuts, either right or left.

"The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11" by David Ray Griffin delves into some gray areas, but it poses some questions worthy of consideration. Our question is, why didn't the 9-11 Commission ask some of the same questions as Griffin? A report that skirts the hard questions is hardly a vigorous report.

Griffin notes that Max Cleland's criticism of the 9-11 Commission and Bush's involvement and interference with the project cost him his bid for the Senate reelection. The questions the author poses should be required reading for understanding the Phony War on Terror (PWOT ©).

Along the lines of botched investigations into terrorist incidents, it was recently revealed that sections of the Oklahoma City Bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building had been edited, specifically, 10 minutes of surveillance tape were deleted on several tapes prior to the 9:02 a.m. explosion (Where are you, Rose Mary Woods?)
"Long-secret security tapes showing the chaos immediately after the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building are blank in the minutes before the blast and appear to have been edited, an attorney who obtained the recordings said Sunday." (Attorney: Tapes From Oklahoma City Bombing Edited.)

Why did it take a FOIA lawsuit and 14 years to release these tapes? If only two people were involved in the bombing, then what purpose did classification fulfill? Why is everything these days classified Top Secret and deemed essential to national security?

Tapes from four different security cameras all have blackouts in the minutes leading up to the explosion. Jesse Trentadue, a Salt Lake City attorney and brother of one of the victims who sued for release of the films said, "The absence of footage from these crucial time intervals is evidence that there is something there that the FBI doesn't want anybody to see."

Yet more conspiracy: The UK Daily Mail speculates Osama Bin Laden -- the reason for the season, after all -- has been dead for seven years (Has Osama Bin Laden Been dead for Seven Years?) If so, the natural conclusion would be that the U.S. and Britain are covering this supposed fact up to justify the war's continuance.

Since Ranger doesn't dabble in conspiracy theory, this info is presented for thought purposes, only. But too many unanswered questions remain unanswered surrounding terrorism and U.S. policy relating to the topic.

I work in Oklahoma City and live nearby. I had a brief but informative relationship with a person injured in the bombing. I haven't talked to them in several years so I will withhold their name. In one discussion near the time of Timothy McVeigh's execution they were quite upset. Not at McVeigh, but at the government for letting him off easy by getting him out of the way. They felt there was a great deal more to learn from him by keeping him alive.

I also remember hearing about the blank time on so many tapes. While enjoying a refreshment at a local establishment a person commented something to the effect that they didn't understand why anyone would want to dredge up the pain of the past. I asked him that if it were him or a relative injured or killed, wouldn't they want all of the understanding of the event that they could get.

As part of a healthy functioning democratic society we should always have an outlet for asking tough questions of our government without being told that the information or answer was being withheld for security reasons. That answer is the coward's way out of being held accountable.

my biggest problem with the oklahoma case doesn't really revolve around any kind of deep dark cabalistic conspiracy. instead, it rests on the presumption that they never did catch the all of the motherfuckers involved.

i'm sorry, but i have a hard time wrapping my mind around timothy mcviegh and the prime architect and main actor in that.

from a bomber's viewpoint that bomb was artistry. really. maximum focused damage, truly minimal collateral damage. the blast was shaped and focused on the target, and aside from a few windows (which simply must be expected when you blow shit up), other structures were left undamaged.

that kind of sophistication takes study, and lots and lots of practice. not only must the explosives be mixed perfectly (without blowing your own shit up), but the inside of the truck needs to be baffled and beefed up to absorb and redirect the explosion toward the target. the placement of the truckbomb needs to be exact, as does the windage, and all the other variable factors that go into something like that.

where did mr. mcviegh pick that kind of skill set up? it's not something one can read about in phoenix publishing books, it's not something that had anything to do with his specialty in the army.

the persons capable of putting together that kind of operation are not the type that would then choose a getaway vehicle with expired registration.

we have already seen the rumblings of more mcviegh types out there. even if he was only a fall guy for viler, crazier shitheads. we have seen a census counter hung in kentucky, for trying to do his job. we have seen self-described "patriots" feeling the need to flaunt their weapons in public because our president in speaking in their city.

not only have many important questions gone unanswered, those are answers that we might do well to have in the very near future.

Mb,
The OKC official scenario violates all that I know about Terrorist tactics. My personal sticking point is that few terror types(after Maalot) will deliberately target children. This is a no go even for the middle eastern groups. Usually. I doubt an Amie group could hope to gain new support and membership by such vile activity. Now if they did the same thing on a non-work day they'd get a lot of notice by attacking the government and doing so without killing innocents. Even the IRA stopped doing such things after these caused negative emotions against them.
They are as stratified as we are and easily predictable.
There is NO WAY only 2 idiots were involved in an incident of this significance.

Check out the second Gore-Bush debate leading up to the 2000 election.

The interesting part is where Bush states that he is against police profiling, especially the profiling of Arab-Americans in airports.

Hi
I'll try and find this later today but I do remember reading that a former cia person wrote that little timmy was in Malaysia a couple of times hang with the local crazies. The cia was only interested in the crazy. That's were he picked up the bomb skills and I agree there wasn't just 2, no way. I found my tin foil hat so it's nap time for me.

Jo,
These links are weak. They are not verifiable.
I will not accept anything said by Larry Johnson.
The wiki piece uses the Prague meeting which in fact is disputed by reputable sources. So i doubt it's value as source material.

As far as Osama is concerned, I have no problems believing that he's been dead for yrs. If you're going to perpetuate the "politics of fear", you've got to have a boogie man.
