Hatfields and McCoys

From Sea to Shining Sea
 ___________________

Washington Post animated cartoonist Telnaes can be good and she enjoys a large following.  Her post today -- "From Sea to Shining Sea" depicts the fear of the NRA, and it is doubtful she consulted with the group to discover if this was an accurate portrayal of their position.

Her vision is not RangerAgainstWar's view of a healthy society, and we bemoan the image Telnaes presents for us.  But the doleful image outstrips the animation.  The image which she unwittingly conveys is an "Us'ns agin' them'ins" -- a Hatfields and McCoys, ad infinitum.  No sensible middle ground is allowed.

"Kids are getting murdered!" they cry. The "Other Side" says, "Curtailing gun rights is a slippery slope towards fascism!"  Both are unfortunate realities we have been facing for a while now.  In the same edition Tom Toles echoed our problem:

How do we grow past our fierce sectarianism? One thing is for sure: Not talking about problems -- saying, "He is an idiot", solves nothing.

Personally, I am moving toward intensified sectarianism and, oddly, it is in the opposite direction of where I once stood on the political spectrum. Once a moderate dem. I am becoming a staunch conservative. I will be voting Rep in all future elections regardless of who is floated as a candidate.

Why? I live in NY, bastion of dem/liberalism run amuck. I see what happens when lib wet dreams become reality. It ain't pretty and it ain't American.

60 cents of every earned dollar going to taxes. More people working for govt or on welfare than working in the private sector.

The 2nd amendment now almost completely discarded (see NY's gun laws encated as of 1/15/2013).

Goofy govt insertions into even the most mundane minutia of private life; like no sodas larger than 16 unces allowed in NYC.

Comrade Cuomo thinks that based on all of this he has a good chance of being the next POTUS. He is pandering to the libs. What he has done is what the libs want. Comrade Bloomberg apparently meets lib expectations too.

Comrades Cuomo and Bloomberg are protected by gaurds armed with magazines in their weapons holding more than the 7 round limit the rest of us are now faced with (those of us, that is, that are favored enough by the govt to even be permitted to own a gun). Killing a 1st responder (i.e. agent of the politbureau) has a sentence of life without parole, yet killing a prole, like one's grandmother, with a hammer means that you can be out in 17 years.

Some comrades are more equal than others. Welcome to lib land.

Why the divisiveness? because each side truly has a radically different vision for America. Each side, given the reins will run at a fast out of control gallop toward that vision without consideration of the vast (50%?) number of Americans that see things differently; perhaps even trampling them on the way. Yet the conservative party seems to me to adhere more closely to the Constitution. So I'll go with them.

I repeat that it is time for the North East to secede from the union. They can form the Socialist States of America.

That or the rest of the US should make like Johny Reb. The farmers and ranchers in fly over America could destroy the N.E. in a war waged by starvation. Simply refuse to either grow sufficient crops or sell food to NYC, Boston, etc.

Ah -- spoken like a true Johnny Reb, avedis.

Curious, no, that we liberal / progressive-thinking people have become so estranged from the knee-jerk, what-passes-as-liberals today; curious and sad. Like you, I hereby confess that I had one mad moment where I thought, "I can't bear these silly ninnies; maybe the Republicans would be more my speed ... a gentler and kinder Republican?" But nO!!!!

I woke up tout de suite when I came across bilious inane, insane rantings of some of their spokesmen. I believe most Republicans today are crazy, either by dint of disposition, or simply toadyism to The (Tea) Party. Pity, as I grew up in a truly middle-of-the road household with parents who voted on both sides of the fence, according to quality and platform. It seems people are simply hardcore ideologues today ... the good of the nation is hardly forefronted.

I find little common ground with either side today. And then I hear Mr. Kucinich signs up to speak on FOX --sacrebleu!

There is no middle road any more, Jim. Time to take sides and take the country back - or carve out a piece where we can live free.

Last night I drove a friend to a DWI impact class. He had been convicted of misdeamor DWI and lost his liscence to drive for a while. The class was held at a county public safety complex.

I drove up to the fenced-in compound and was stopped at the entrance by armed guards(state troopers, I think). One of them had an M4 (with 30 rnd mag) at port arms. His partner flagged me down and stopped me while the assualt rifle armed one warily watched, finger resting across trigger guard.

fascist (hand on hip near side arm),"drivers license please"

me,"Why? Did I do something wrong officer?"

facist, "We need to check everyone coming in here to make sure they are supposed to be driving"

me,"I'm driving my friend who will be attending the class. I'm just the cheuffeur"

facist,"I don't care. I need to see your license"

me" I got nothing to hide and I'll show you my license in a second, but I am just curious as to what legal right you have to ask for it"

facist "You need to show it to me becuase I'm asking or you can turn around and leave and your buddy will be in violation of his sentence"

me "Wrong answer. Here's the license, but that was the wrong answer"

He indignantly waives me through. After we got out of the car (and he and mr assualt rifle are mad dogging me the whole time), I noted that were shooters on the roof of the building - with M16 type rifles - as well.

This is a lousy DUI victim impact class.

This is also lousy "liberal" new york.

What burns me about the new laws is that *I* am not trusted to own a weapon with more than 7 rounds in the mag, but the cops can have whatever they want to the point of absurdity.

I don't need an "assualt weapon". I really don't. It's the principle of the thing that counts here. I am the enemy because I am not a member or agent of the politbureau, but I am to trust them. THIS IS WRONG AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A LIBERAL STATE.

LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES ARE THE SAME. BOTH SNOTS FROM THE SAME NOSE. if you believe that there is a difference you are buying into their plot to divide and conquer.

P.S. Three battalions and two to three weeks. I could starve the NE into submision. I tell you my plan sometime.

To further my analogy, a snot can come from the left nostril or the right nostril. Which snot is more appealing?

The cartoon you selected illustrates the dishonesty of the left in this way as wel as what you point out - Keep the guns and replace the figures with police and we have something better approximating the truth.

But libs are OK with that image. They trust the govt but not themselves and their neighbors?
